Nestled along the Eerste River, the newly launched Stellenbosch Art Mile is an outdoor gallery like no other, offering a dynamic collection of interactive art installations and sensory experiences that evolve over time.

Alongside the Eerste River
The Stellenbosch Art Mile stretches across a 1.6-kilometer route, bridging the Eerste River at six points while seamlessly blending art, nature and community.
Starting at the pedestrian bridge on Krige Street near Markotter and extending to the Coetzenburg bridge, the Art Mile weaves through a landscape that encourages interaction and exploration. Artworks and site-specific installations are carefully chosen for their creativity, relevance, sensory appeal, and educational value. The installations invite playful interaction, making it an immersive experience for visitors of all ages.

Featuring Artists
Each artist featured in the Art Mile was encouraged to engage with the distinctive landscape, history, and design of Stellenbosch and the Eerste River, sparking a dialogue with both the community and the urban environment.
Some of the talented artists showcased include Jean Brundrit, Jacques Buys, John de Jager, Dané Erwee, Rudolf Gouws, Rose Kirumira, Nina Kruger, Vulindlela Nyoni, Ledelle Moe, Juan Piek, Strijdom Van Der Merwe, Gina Van Der Ploeg, Edoardo Villa, and Sivan Zeffertt.

A Tapestry of Time
The Art Mile’s theme, Tapestry of Time, delves into the ancient geological forces that have shaped the Eerste River and the town. This year-long exhibition, running from October 2024 to September 2025, celebrates both emerging and established artists, providing a platform for diverse voices and creative expressions.
The Stellenbosch Art Mile is a community-driven initiative, brought to life by the collective efforts of the Stellenbosch Outdoor Sculpture Trust, Stellenbosch Trail Fund, Stellenbosch University, Visit Stellenbosch, and Stellenbosch Municipality. With their support, the Art Mile has become a thriving space where creativity flourishes, adding a unique artistic dimension to our town.
