Elegant living at a slower, gentler pace is once again possible at Vergenoegd Löw.

An afternoon farm tea to tempt discerning palates.

There is something deeply comforting about stepping into an old home. Thick whitewashed walls, worn timber floors and rooms that have witnessed generations of conversation, celebration and quiet reflection, have a way of reminding us that life was once lived at a more gentle pace.

At Vergenoegd Löw, that feeling has found new expression in the beautifully restored 1773 Homestead. Following an extensive and sensitive renovation, this elegant Cape Dutch landmark has reopened as an exclusive destination for a limited number of pre‑booked day visitors, inviting guests to rediscover the simple luxury of lingering a little longer.

Throughout the Homestead, original architectural features have been carefully preserved and paired with natural textures, bespoke craftsmanship and a restrained contemporary aesthetic. The result is a space that honours its past while embracing modern comfort, somewhere that feels both timeless and warmly familiar.

At the heart of the experience are two distinctive culinary journeys. The Farm Tea Experience evokes the nostalgia of gathering around a beautifully laid table, where stories unfold over carefully prepared treats and fragrant teas. Reimagined through an unmistakably Cape lens, it draws on indigenous ingredients and the culinary traditions of Khoisan, Cape Malay, Dutch, German and British communities.

Inspired by the historic spice routes linking the Cape with Batavia and Ceylon, each course offers a thoughtful taste of the region’s layered heritage.

For those drawn to the coast, the Merroir Experience celebrates the sea’s enduring influence on flavour. Sustainably produced Imperial Heritage Caviar, fresh oysters, prawns and seasonal dishes are paired with Vergenoegd Löw’s maritime-influenced Cap Classique, whose freshness reflects the cooling Atlantic breezes that shape the estate’s vineyards. Guests may also choose to elevate the occasion with Champagne.

The Homestead’s culinary offering extends beyond these signature experiences. Breakfast showcases seasonal produce grown according to the estate’s regenerative farming philosophy, while evening dining brings guests together around thoughtfully curated chef’s menus.

More than simply another Winelands destination, the restored 1773 Homestead at Vergenoegd Löw is a reminder that the finest moments are often the unhurried ones. Whether visiting for breakfast, afternoon tea, an indulgent Merroir Experience or a seasonal dinner, guests are invited to slow down, reconnect and savour a sense of timeless Cape hospitality that feels both nostalgic and entirely contemporary.
