International wealth management pioneer Stonehage Fleming recently treated a handful of its clients – and Stellenbosch Visio readers – to an online cooking masterclass. Celebrated South African chef and restaurateur Bertus Basson took guests on a culinary journey while preparing a first course, entrée, sides and dessert – all from the kitchen of artist Portchie’s Stellenbosch home.
Each participant received a seasonal harvest box from Babylonstoren’s online shop, packed with farm-fresh vegetables, as well as olive oil, a bottle of the estate’s 2019 Viognier and a portion of its grass-fed Chianina flat-iron steak. Bertus’s own selection completed the ingredients list for creating some of his favourite dishes: grilled aubergine, kale salad and perfectly seared steak.
After a welcome message by Stonehage Fleming South Africa partner and chairman Johan van Zyl, guests had the opportunity to learn from one of the country’s most fêted celebrity chefs. Babylonstoren cellar master Charl Coetzee shared valuable insight into the vinous world of Viognier.
