6 local eateries to get your fine-dining fix at home

Movement within Stellenbosch has been severely restricted due to the coronavirus Covid-19. People are now only allowed to leave their homes for very specific reasons and dining out on the town is not one of them.

So it is mighty encouraging to see so many of our local wineries and restaurants that are quickly and innovatively reorganising their businesses to handle online orders and deliveries, to provide food and drink for their customers, and retain jobs for their staff.

With takeaway and deliveries now one of the few ways we can still enjoy ourselves, it is crucial we wring every scintilla of pleasure from it. Here’s a selection of some of the most tempting menus available from top eateries in and around Stellenbosch, that will make you feel like you have a Chef in your kitchen (without the dishes).

Bertus se Huiskos

South African Chef Of The Year Bertus Basson, who owns Stellenbosch restaurants Eike, Overture, Spek en Bone and De Vrije Burger, has started home deliveries, making use of Uber Eats and his own staff to transport the meals. Kyle and Bertus have filled a box with some Eike favourites and some South African flavours to be enjoyed at home. The meal is fresh, local and will evoke some nostalgic food memories. They also have a selection of wine they can deliver with your box.

Delivery is Tuesdays to Saturdays in Stellenbosch. Somerset West, Gordons Bay and Strand is R25 delivery. Twice a week delivery to other areas for a fee of R50. Pickup at Eike is also an option.
