Outdoor running and riding: on the trail of greatness

Keeping your mind, body and spirit healthy and at optimal functioning is becoming more and more important as the year kicks fully into gear. Combine the benefits of exercise with the therapy of being outside in nature and stay ahead of the curve with these great outdoor running and riding events happening in the Winelands this weekend.

Nissan Trailseeker @Banhoek – 15 February 2020

Escape the ordinary, load your mountain bike and head to the Banhoek Valley Conservancy, Stellenbosch, for the first event of the 2020 Nissan Trailseeker MTB Series. Join the trail movement and enter for either the 10 km, 20 km, 40 km or 70 km race category.

The series kicks off at Kylemore Hoërskool, who plays host to the Trailseeker mountain bikers for this prestigious event. The Banhoek Conservancy Trails offers more than 70 kilometres of sumptuous trails, most of which are single track. Riders will be left with a lasting impression of beautiful scenery along the single track, steep gritty jeep tracks taking riders through some fynbos heaven, mind-blowing descents and stunning valley views. These trails offer varying degrees of difficulty with distances and routes for both novice and pro mountain bikers.

Pack Run @Tygerberg – 16 February 2020

This is a pack run – run together in a social and fun atmosphere. Explore the Tygerberg Nature Reserve with a choice of trails, all of relatively easy difficulty they are all very runnable, featuring lots of hills and an open view of Table Mountain. This is an outdoor running event, so no mountain bikes are allowed and runners are advised to ensure that they are self-sufficient in terms of water and food.

Farmer Angus Trailrun@ The Shed – 16 February 2020

A fun social run for runners of all ages and skill levels. These runs will be at The Shed Venue on Spier Farm – Off Annandale Road, which is the link road between the R310 and R44.

Run the Greens @Boschenmeer – 14 February 2020

Join Boschenmeer Golf Estate on the 14th of February for a refreshing 5km or 9km run through the estate and the golf course.

After the run, participants can enjoy a free glass of wine or coffee. Other offerings on the day include wine, pizza, craft beer and live music.
