The new year marks a significant milestone for one of South Africa’s oldest wine farms as Muratie Wine Estate celebrates 340 years since its founding in 1685.

Nestled on the slopes of Simonsberg Mountain, Muratie’s story began with German soldier Laurens Campher, who started farming there in 1685 and officially received the deed from Dutch Cape Colony governor Simon van der Stel in 1699.
Over the centuries, Muratie has passed through the hands of several colourful owners and is now proudly managed by the Melck family, descendants of the mercenary pioneer Martin Melck.

This year, Muratie invites you to celebrate both harvest and heritage at their fun-filled family harvest festival. From fresh food and live music to grape stomping and vineyard walks, Muratie promises to rid you of the post-holiday blues.
Beyond the festival, Muratie has an exciting lineup of events and new wine releases planned for the year, starting with the launch of their Hercules Du Preez Cabernet Franc 2022.

Be part of the next chapter in Muratie’s extraordinary story and raise a glass to 340 years of history, heritage, and exceptional wine.
