Intimate Art Encounters in the Riebeek Valley

Lovers of art, wine and good will soon be flocking to the eagerly awaited Solo Studios Intimate Art Encounters in the Swartland’s Riebeek Valley.

On the weekend of 11-13 December this fertile valley will be humming with activities. A most enticing programme will give patrons privileged access to artists’ studios, larger exhibitions, performance art, wine and food experiences and live theatre.

Thanks to the sought-after encounters with renowned artists in their intimate work spaces, Solo Studios Intimate Art Encounters has established itself as a premier art destination over the past five years. Some of this year’s artists include Tamlin Blake, Riaan van Zyl and Emma Willemse, all living and working in the seclusion of the valley while drawing inspiration from it. No fewer than 17 established as well as up-and-coming artists have been selected to welcome limited groups of art lovers, investors and collectors to their creative spaces.

In addition to that, 11 galleries will host themed or group exhibitions, demonstrations, talks and other fascinating activities, ranging from ceramics to photography and a public sculpture project.

Chris and Andrea Mullineux are some of the winemakers hosting tastings.

Swartland wines are prime examples of the elevated art of winemaking, and there will be ample opportunities to meet the faces behind the well-known labels. The conviviality does not end there. Passholders can also book for Solo Studios –wine and canape pairing events, being held on Saturday 12 December in the private homes of the valley’s finest hosts in collaboration with the aforementioned winemakers.

An exciting variety of entertaining and often thought-provoking live theatre performances will round out the weekend. Keep an eye and ear out for The Steelband and The Olive Branch Projects which are the creative development entities of Arts Town Riebeek Valley.
