How you can help #StellenboschUnite

#StellenboschUnite is what happens when you bring together Stellenbosch MunicipalityStellenbosch UniversityVisit Stellenbosch (civil society), SCAN (Stellenbosch Civil Advocacy Network, representing the non-profit sector) and the Greater Stellenbosch Development Trust (administrators) in a collaborative aid action aimed at providing social support to our vulnerable community members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their first priority is to supply weekly food packages to identified vulnerable families. Once this has been done, StellenboschUnite will start to mobilise further, to be able to provide the aid that might be needed if the pandemic deteriorates.

This is an unprecedented situation requiring readiness and responsiveness, so the organisation is calling on everyone in Stellenbosch to unite and to ensure that no one in our town has to face starvation.

The Need

The COVID-19 pandemic is causing unprecedented social distress in vulnerable communities. The sudden loss of income caused by the lockdown is rapidly eroding food security and #StellenboschUnite calling on everyone to help alleviate hunger in our town.

The Target

A basic provision food parcel for a family of four people will be supplied to a minimum of 2 500 homes per week.

How will it work

Food parcels will be assembled and distributed through a network of NPO’s, community leaders, churches and volunteers to vulnerable families, identified through these networks.  StellenboschUnite is working closely with community leaders to identify the needs in each area. These leaders will also oversee the distribution within their communities.

StellenboschUnite has already partnered with organisations like Usiko Stellenbosch to help distribute food parcels.
