Family-Friendly Wine Farms in Stellenbosch

All those who believe in the Easter Bunny will know that we have a very busy weekend ahead with Easter Egg hunts at Dwarsriver Valley,  Spier, Middelvlei, Skilpadvlei, Eikendal and the Vergenoegd Löw Homestead.

Also look out for family-friendly wine farms offering a unique experience for families, where parents can enjoy a glass of wine while their children enjoy a variety of activities.

From petting zoos to playgrounds, there is something for everyone — so pack up the family and discover the fun in these family-friendly Stellenbosch wine farms.

Wine and Wildlife at Vredenheim

As a haven for the whole family in the middle of the Stellenbosch Winelands, Vredenheim offers an escape from television screens, cell phones, and crowded shopping malls — allowing kids to still be kids.

While adults overlook the dam and enjoy a glass of wine and a meal at Vredenheim’s restaurant, Hudson’s, youngsters can play on the rolling green lawn’s jungle gym, feed baby farm animals at the Animal Farm, and meet tigers, lions and a leopard at the Cat Park.

If you prefer to keep a close eye on your youngster, they can join you in the Tasting Room and partake in a grape juice tasting paired with edible clay, all while you sip on a Chardonnay.

Playing in the Garden at Spier

With open spaces, fresh farm air, lawns overlooking a river, and trees and granite boulders serving as a natural jungle gym, Spier Wine Farm has become a hotspot for families of all ages, says Annebelle Schreuders, COO of Spier Destination.

Spier’s Elemental Play Garden represents the four elements of nature — water, air, fire and earth. Here, kids can explore the outdoors and connect with nature while parents relax with a glass of award-winning Spier wine in hand.

Additionally, having fun can also be educational with Spier’s Eagle Encounters Raptor Rehabilitation Centre, where families can learn about the importance of birds of prey on an organic farm while having close encounters with the birds.

Also look out for Spier Light Art that runs till 1 April 2024.

Biking and Picnic Baskets at Blaauwklippen

With a bike park, family market, eatery, and picnic offering, Blaauwklippen Wine Estate offers everything you need for the perfect family outing in Stellenbosch.

Every Saturday and Sunday, Blaauwklippen hosts a Family Market with a seasonal focus and strong emphasis on local, organic and sustainable food produce and lifestyle goods. Here, families can taste cuisine from around the world under the oak trees. Parents can grab a refreshment while the youngsters visit Blaauwklippen’s Bike Park, which features a state-of-the-art kiddies play area with a cycling track and gigantic jungle gym.

A family picnic is always a fun time of bonding, and the Blaauwklippen Farm Shop and Deli’s picnic baskets make it even better. Packed with freshly baked goods and hearty meals, the baskets offer families a taste of Stellenbosch, which they can enjoy alongside a massive jungle gym and lush lawns —  the perfect setting for good food, entertainment and excellent wines.

Animal Encounters at Knorhoek

As you enter Knorhoek Wine Farm, you better hold on to your youngster as they will become filled with excitement when seeing the springboks and zebras beside the road.

At the Wine Tasting Room, adults can enjoy a glass of wine alongside their meal, while youngsters enjoy soft drinks with Knorhoek’s small gourmet pizza offerings.

After lunch, when you are enjoying a wine top-up with dessert, the kids can play at the jungle gym, dig in the sandpit, and encounter the cows on the big lawn just opposite the Wine Tasting Room.

Easter at Vergenoegd Löw

Celebrate hope and togetherness at Vergenoegd Löw The Wine Estate in Stellenbosch this Easter (29 March to 1 April).
