It takes a village

Apart from proverbially raising a child, a village can also re-energise the regional economy. Support Stellenbosch has launched an innovative campaign that appeals to residents to support local businesses, experience Stellenbosch as tourists, and inspire their networks to discover what the region has to offer.

Following months of behind-the-scenes work to ensure compliance with stringent health and safety protocols, Stellenbosch is ready to open its doors to the public.

Support Stellenbosch will formally roll out a series of incentives from September onwards in aid of restaurants, accommodation and experiences. To get local eateries back on track, restaurant patrons will be rewarded with discount vouchers redeemable at participating establishments. It will not cost restaurants any money to benefit from this campaign financed by a Restaurant Recovery Fund. The aim is to raise R1.5m in donations by various stakeholders, corporates, and other benefactors.

Local tech start-up SnapScan will manage the reward voucher system by way of an online wallet that can be used during the campaign to pay for dining out at the participating restaurants. In this way, the money donated will stay in the local economy.

Similar discount incentives will be rolled out for experiences, activities and accommodation. Stellenbosch on Stage will host virtual concerts funded through sponsorships. Each ticket sold includes a SnapScan voucher that can be redeemed at a participating Stellenbosch business.

The Support Stellenbosch packages will be sold on the Visit Stellenbosch Online Booking Portal. Vouchers can be redeemed at any of the participating experience partners. Businesses wishing to participate in the campaign can contact Jenna Moses at jenna@visitstellenbosch.org and 021 886 4310.

We will keep you updated on this exciting project in the weeks to come.
