Art-lovers from across the world are flocking to Hermanus for the seventh iteration of Hermanus Fynarts, Cavalli Estate is hosting a special winemakers dinner and a super band of South Africa’s most talented musicians pay tribute to Led Zeppelin at Hillcrest Quarry. Hermanus FynArts 2019 – 7 to 17 June
The seventh annual Hermanus FynArts festival is alive and well takes place this year from 7 to 17 June. This fusion of arts festival and winter school offers a stimulating programme for those who enjoy the visual and performing arts, music, cookery, the art of wine making and tasting, and listening to interesting speakers on a wide range of topics related to the arts and current affairs.
Says festival director Mary Faure: ‘In seven years we have grown into a recognised and respected arts event on the South African arts calendar. We are proud to this year again host top artists, performers, musicians and speakers who are bound to enchant, engage, inspire and stimulate festival goers.’
There are close to 30 visual art exhibitions for this year’s festival. The festival artist is Phillemon Hlungwani, recognised as one of the most accomplished contemporary artists now working in South Africa. Apart from his exhibition, the are the ever popular Sculpture on the Cliffs exhibition, the exhibition of the finalists in the sought-after Bouchard Finlayson Art Award, art walkabouts and tours, exhibitions on wine farms and in 16 galleries. More than 60 ceramists and thread artists will also exhibit their work.

ADHD -Aaron McIlroy @ The Drama Factory – 14 to 15 June 2019
Join Aaron McIlroy on a wild and whacky journey into the fantastical world of learning disorders. This one-man comedy riot takes on the ‘problems’ of ADHD and other ‘gifts’. Get a bird’s eye view into the chaotic and beautiful mind of Mcilroy who has lived with this gift for half a century. This comedic steamroller (without GPS) is scripted by Mcilroy and Patrick Kenny, who also directs the show.
Aaron Mcilroy is a creative tour de force. his ability to key into the relevant themes in our society and expose the” funny,” is a gift that is unique and precious. Mcilroy’s long list of hit shows include abbamaniacs, the loser, comedy masterclass but to name a few. Aaron is also a familiar face on the big screen having recently played the role of Spuds crazy dad in all three of the movies in the franchise. this multi award winning, multi talented performer brings his vast array of skills to the production of ADHD Which has been leaving audiences rolling in the isles for the last 18 months and is guaranteed to leave you in the same state! Youth Day Trail Run Presented by Capestorm @ Delvera – 16 June 2019
Join Dirtopia for the first Capestrom Trail run and celebrate Youth Day with a run between the vineyards, stunning views & singletrack in the Simonsberg Conservancy. This day is dedicated to the youth of South Africa so there will be youth categories in every distance, the whole family is welcome! All under 18’s pay only R50 pre-entry fee.
The longer routes offer great climbing on jeep track through the vineyards towards Klapmutskop with rewarding singletrack trails and scenic Wineland views from the water point of Table Mountain in the distance. The 5km circles through the vineyards and around the farm dams with lots of birdlife.

Led Zeppelin Tribute Gig @Hillcrest Quarry – 16 June 2019
If you (and maybe dad) are fans of one of the greatest rock bands of all time, or just share a love of rock ‘n roll, then take him to see some of South Africa’s most talented musicians pay tribute to Led Zeppelin. Musicians include members of Wonderboom, Prime Circle and Van Coke Kartel. Doors open at 1:30pm and the show starts at 2:30pm.
