Get ready for a spectacular ‘Vensters’

Thousands of newcomer students at Stellenbosch University are putting the final touches to their performances – including some impressive dance moves – for the annual ‘Vensters’ (Windows) street theatre event tonight (Friday 31 January 2020) in Stellenbosch.

SU residences and private wards (PSOs) collaborate to bring audiences a vibrant and entertaining performance, related to the social impact projects they are involved in throughout the year. The performances, that are repeated throughout the night to give spectators the opportunity to move from performance to performance, also convey messages of social awareness.

Vensters, believed to be one of the biggest outdoor theatre events in South Africa, is presented by Connect Maties – a student driven organisation centered around community engagement, social impact and community empowerment.

·       Stalls in Victoria Street will open at 17:00, but the live performances will start at 18:00 and will continue until 22:00 tonight.

·       Liaise about Vensters with the 2020 Connect Chairperson, Palesa Maphutuma at 07646533393, for more information.

About Vensters

Previously known to be a somewhat riotous occasion involving considerable consumption of alcohol, the Vensters event has been reconceptualised in a number of important ways. Primary amongst these is the strong focus of performances and fundraising on social impact projects that connect the University and surrounding communities. These projects fall within the themes of Education for All; Employment & Inclusive Economic Development; Environment & Sustainability; Food Security & Health; Resources & Infrastructure; Safety, Security & Good Governance; and Social & Gender Justice.
