This year, South Africa and its bold winemakers are celebrating 50 years of Cap Classique, a proudly and uniquely South African term indicating a sparkling wine made in the traditional method of Champagne. In celebration of this momentous milestone, Stellenbosch Visio and the Bergkelder Vinotèque are giving away 24 bottles of sparkling South African MCC stars.
The Bergkelder Vinotèque, an online wine and spirits store offering a select portfolio of some of South Africa’s most distinctive brands, has partnered with Stellenbosch Visio in celebrating 50 YEARS OF SPARKLE. With Méthode Cap Classique blowing out 50 candles this year, we are spoiling bubbly fans with MCC from Durbanville Hills, J.C. Le Roux, Nederburg and Pongrácz to the value of more than R7,000.

Every Friday from 27 August 2021 to 17 September 2021, Stellenbosch Visio and Vinotèque will give away a case – six bottles – of MCC. That’s four cases of stunning MCC totalling to 24 bottles. Make sure to follow Stellenbosch Visio on Facebook and Instagram where our 50 YEARS OF SPARKLE competition will kick off on 27 August 2021. The MCCs up for grabs are:
Durbanville Hills Blanc de Blancs 2016
Nine leading vineyard owners in the Durbanville district joined forces with Distell to create Durbanville Hills with the aim of promoting the regional individuality of this prime wine-growing area. The striking Durbanville Hills cellar sits on the side of a series of rolling hills with magnificent views of Table Mountain and Table Bay – the very geography that lies at the heart of what makes the wines so unique. The Durbanville Hills Blanc de Blancs 2016 boasts an abundance of citrus, apple and pineapple flavours, well supported by a natural crisp acidity, mouth-wateringly creamy texture and enticing linger.
J.C. Le Roux Scintilla 2014 is an elegant, fresh, well-balanced and delicate Cap Classique that explodes with scintillating bubbles. This exceptional signature J.C. Le Roux Cap Classique has a brilliant light straw colour with a dry, soft and elegant palate. The wine displays a beautiful balance between fresh citrus notes from the Chardonnay and mouthfeel from the Pinot Noir. This vintage will benefit from additional bottle maturation as 2014 was a perfect year for making white wines with longevity and ageing potential.
Nederburg Méthode Cap Classique Brut 2013
Crisp, zesty and refreshing with delicate flavours, Nederburg’s first Cap Classique Brut celebrates a journey of more than two centuries with the love of winemaking at heart. This sophisticated and elegantly complex and dry effervescent wine is made in the traditional bottle-fermented style, from a cellar-selected blend of premium noble grape varieties: Chardonnay (50%) and Pinot Noir (50%). Hand-picked grapes were sourced from top-performing vineyards situated in Stellenbosch, Durbanville and Simondium.
Handcrafted in a uniquely-styled fluted bottle that epitomises elegance, quality and nobility, this magnificent Cap Classique encapsulates grace and exceptional character. It is alluring with a rich complexity and a slight green tint that teems with lively bubbles. Nuances of fresh fruit, almonds and rich buttery bread, delight the senses. This prestige cuvée is the ultimate pairing with bitter dark chocolate, duck liver parfait and orange scented delights.
