Calyx Boutique’s all-women team brings curated clothing collections that transcend time, age and form to Stellenbosch. It all started with a love for “all things beautiful” and a passion for entrepreneurship, says Calyx founder and owner, Maryna Nortier.
Maryna decided to create what she believed a clothing boutique should be: warm, embracing, uplifting, and most of all, a space that offers a curated collection of clothing that allows for women to dress individualistically.
Calyx has been dressing women for the past 15 years. During this time, a “passion for celebrating and embracing the beautiful diversity of the feminine form” has remained a guiding principle for Maryna and her team. “It was crucial that women feel they walk into a sanctuary when they enter Calyx – cue a soft fragrance, warm lighting and a subtle soundtrack.”
But her attention to detail doesn’t end there… The hangers are filled with a selection of clothing she sources and chooses herself. “When buying, I considers style, size, print,
fabric, colour and fit. I try on practically everything before ordering it for the store. Most importantly, it’s got to have an X-factor. Our clothes should be for a woman like a calyx is for a flower – holding and supporting the bud as it blooms,” explains Maryna.
Calyx is not driven by trends. The garments transcend time, age and form. “When we choose items for the boutique, we always want it to be a piece that can be worn season after season. It has to be an item that our clients will really love and wear for years to come.”
Calyx’s styling assistants, Monique, Simmie and Taylon, are as diverse as the dresses – in age, style and personality. “It makes for such a fun space. For the Calyx team, dressing playfully and playfully dressing is part of what allows us to connect with each other and our clients. Playfulness sparks joy, so why not dress playfully for yourself?”

It’s a beautiful space filled with incredible women who share their joy and passion so easily. Seeing our customers smile as they put on something that makes them feel like themselves is the reason we gather together all things beautiful.”
