Planning to get your summer rolling with a training plan and a health kick? The Cape Winelands offer a wide variety of events and races to sign up and train for. Here are five of the most popular in our region.
The Cape Winelands calendar’s biggest running event is arguably the Sportsmans Warehouse Winelands Marathon on 9 November 2019, at Eikestad Primary School in Stellenbosch.
This event plays out on a fast course between the vineyards with great views and beautiful Wineland scenery. The long routes also use the neighbouring farm of Nooitgedacht terrain, so you’ll get some singletrack in the forest, jeeptrack through the vineyards and winding roads between the orchards. Relax on the lawns at the dam after the event and perhaps sip some of the Estate’s Cap Classique Rose or Brut to reward yourself. Runners will be timed with an Amarider Trail Tag and timing data will be streamed live on www.trailtag.coza . If you have a Trail Tag from previous events, please bring it along to registration.
Get ready for the toughest battle on the Bottelary Hills in Stellenbosch. This is a race with a reasonable level of challenge while remaining enjoyable for most skills levels and those that appreciate a spectacular view. The route is carefully planned to make this race a true but achievable challenge of both fitness and mountain biking technical skills.
MyRun is a free weekly fitness event that is open to everyone and is held every Sunday morning. Every registered participant will be issued with a unique timing band and results can be checked after each Myrun event. There is a 2.5km and 5km route on offer which can either be walked or run, The events is pram and dog-friendly. Discovery Vitality members that participate at any Myrun event will be awarded with up to 300 Vitality points.
FOR THE KIDS
On 9 November 2019, the beautiful mountain backdrop dam of Elgin Country Club will be the safe & scenic venue of swim, biking & running fun. There are 7 triathlon distances on offer so there is something for every skill level, including 4 post triathlon open water swim distances. Participants can do the triathlon or swim or both. There is also a bike run duathlon option for non-swimmers.
