RIDE

ABSA Cape Epic, prologue stage: 17 March 2019

All the hard work and training has been done, and all you need to worry about is registering and getting to the start line.

At registration, riders will have the opportunity to test-ride the Prologue route in preparation for the start of their eight-day campaign and make sure their bikes are operating like well-oiled machines.

Come and see the world’s greatest mountain bikers begin their eight days of courage. A wonderful prologue race village allows you to experience everything the race has to offer and more.  Be a part of the pre-race nerves and see your favourite riders up close and personal as they stand on the start line at the University of Cape Town.

Spend the day with cheering on the riders as they roll down the start stage and begin their first kilometers of their untamed journey around Table Mountain National Park. You won’t be left to wait as there are plenty of great activities and buzz to keep you busy. Take a walk around and experience the various food offerings or do a little shopping in the logo store for your favourite Absa Cape Epic merchandise. Let the little one’s engage in some active play in the Virgin Active Club V zone or let them have a go around the kiddies pump track while you enjoy a cold one in the infamous Edge Chill Zone on the finish line. If you want to get close to the action, take a walk to the amazing spectator points along the prologue route and cheer for your favourite riders as they tear along the trails.

The first riders head off onto the iconic slopes of Table Mountain from 06:40.
The UCI Women begin their racing from 10:40.
The UCI Men begin their racing from 11:45.

Good food, delicious drinks, lively tunes and brilliant company – At ROOT44 they know South Africans enjoy nothing more. That’s precisely why they’ve created the perfect all-weather setting where you, friends and family can come together rain or shine. It’s a market with a difference: housed in sturdy, super cosy marquees (which means rain is never an issue), and surrounded by gorgeous vineyards and trees, they offer funky live entertainment, craft and homeware stalls perfect for leisurely browsing, and an awesome selection of edible and drinkable treats.

The market traders’ vast range of hand-picked antiques, gorgeous children’s clothing, funky t-shirts, jewellery, homeware, leather goods and various other arts and crafts means we offer you retail therapy par excellence.

The craft beers alone will put a smile on the face of oenophiles and beer aficionados alike. Decadent sweet treats, wood-fired pizza’s, gourmet hamburgers, biltong, healthy salads, sandwiches, spicy curries and other goodies galore will satisfy any tummy rumblings you incur during your ramblings.

2019 Stellenbosch Air Show @ Stellenbosch airfield – 23 March 2019

Dubbed “Fashkosh”, a play on Stellenbosch’s official airfield name Fash and Oshkosh, the single biggest air show and gathering of aviation enthusiasts in the world, which takes place annually at Oshkosh, Wisconsin in the USA, the 2019 Stellenbosch Airshow takes place on 23 March and promises to be bigger, louder and more exciting than in previous years.
