Record prices were achieved at the 7th Le Vin de François Auction held at Overgaauw on 14 March. Every year Pinotage aficionado François Naudé tastes his way through the cellars of various estates. His goal? To select a barrel from each of the top producers and make the best Pinotage in the world. Chosen producers in 2013 were Delheim, Kanonkop, Lanzerac, L’Avenir, Rhebokskloof, Simonsig and Wildekrans. Their barrels were blended together to create Le Vin de François, which sold for as much as R11 400 a case. The auction is by invitation only and the 140 guests were treated to oysters, champagne and canapés on arrival, followed by a gourmet three-course meal prepared by chef Craig Cormack.
