“The Shortmarket Shindig”: a must for any wine aficionado

CAPE TOWN’S top inner-city gourmet destination, The Shortmarket Club, will be hosting an exclusive wine-tasting event, the Shortmarket Shindig, with Ex Animo Wine Co. on Saturday, 28 July 2018. Winemakers from a number of the Cape’s best boutique wine estates will be showcasing their wines and guests are invited to taste, mingle and share their passion for the fruits of the vine.

An informal atmosphere and vibey music will set the tone in the gorgeously upmarket setting of The Shortmarket Club. This restaurant is a partnership venture by Luke and Sandalene Dale Roberts with manager Simon Widdison and head chef Wesley Randles, and it has stormed to the forefront of the culinary game in the two years since its opening. In fact, in 2017 it was nominated for the décor and design award at the second annual Gourmet Restaurant Awards. It was also placed at number eight in the 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards, the most prestigious in the country.

With only 100 tickets made available, the exclusive tasting party kicks off at noon for three hours of fantastic new wine discoveries, accompanied, of course, by chef Randles’ incredible food. His comfort classics with a modern spin uses only the most impeccably sourced ingredients, and the eats are sure to pair perfectly with the wines on offer. Along with stellar service and set in the achingly hip space with its sumptuous modern club feel and open kitchen, the Shortmarket Shindig is sure to be a hit with foodies and wine-lovers alike.

David Clarke, of Ex Animo Wine Co. shares his excitement about the event, “We’re hosting producers who are not seen at other wine events, and people will taste wines rarely available for tasting. What’s more, it will be a fun wine party with delicious food in one of the top restaurants in the city, with great vibes and a fun atmosphere!

There will be some outstanding boutique wineries showcasing their wares, and wine-lovers will have the chance to taste wines and interact with the convivial winemakers. Estates featured include: Craven, The Foundry, Genevieve MCC, Hogan, Intellego, JH Meyer Signature Wines, Joostenberg, Julien Schaal, Mother Rock, Luddite, Restless River, Spioenkop, Testalonga, Thorne & Daughters, Trizanne Signature Wines, Van Loggerenberg and Vuurberg. Different regions and styles will be on offer, making the Shortmarket Shindig ideal place to find a new favourite wine.
