With top class restaurants, wine estates and coffee shops, Stellenbosch is a town very much geared up for the colder weather. Heat up your social life as temperatures plummet with delicious molten swiss amidst jazzy ambience, watch in glee as a thousand ducks parade past at Vergenoëgd Löw Market and make new friends at the launch of Kayamandi’s first coffee shop. In no particular order, here is our list of the best things to make for a weekend worth remembering.
SIP AND SAVOUR
Chalk Coffee Society has been open for a little while, in what could be called an “experimental phase”, and they are happy to now make it official!
This obviously calls for a party. So, join them for some good food, good coffee and inspiring displays of local art (that will be for sale) – kasi style! Contact for bookings: firstname.lastname@example.org, 079 490 1009
FLOCK AND SHOP
What makes the Market @ Vergenoegd unique is their close proximity to the N2 and being the 1st (or last) stop on the Stellenbosch Wine Route, making it a very favourable venue due to ease of access. The open stretch of land allows for ample parking and the market site ideal for the whole family to relax and enjoy a whole day on the estate.
In addition, their 1000 strong flock of Runner Ducks have become somewhat of a Stellenbosch Wine Route “must see” – gaining global popularity amongst both local and international visitors owing to their online and broadcast boom. These feathery friends form part of the workforce at Vergenoegd and after their morning parade they head off into the vineyards to eat bugs and pests, massively reducing our requirements for pesticides.

RUN AND ADMIRE
Have you stayed fit for the first six months of the year? Well, keep on going or start all over! Muratie is the base for some of the most beautiful trail systems in the Western Cape as part of the Simonsberg Conservancy.
This is their first event with Cape Storm as a title sponsor – the gear will be for sale and up for grabs at the lucky draw!
VENUE: Muratie, Simonsberg Conservancy, Stellenbosch | START TIMES: 12km 09h15 7km 09h30
WALK AND SOCIALISE
This fun walk from Delvera to Warwick was launched in April’17 and they now offer a monthly walk to their neighbouring farm, where you will enjoy a tasting of four top class wines.
Grab a coffee & breakfast snack at registration and be back for lunch at Dirtopia Café. Bring good walking shoes, backpack with water, hat, snack (if you like), jacket and of course water bottle. This is a relaxed event with lots of socializing so that you can enjoy the vineyards, wineland scenery and Stellenbosch outdoors! Ensure you book by the Friday before event weekend by 12h00 for catering purposes.
The Trail Centre will be open early for snacks and cold drink sales. Please note that any drinks before, during or after lunch is for your own account. Coffee and full bar available from Dirtopia Café. Credit card, cash, snapscan and zapper facilities available.
MELT AND NIBBLE
The Delheim Jazz & Cheese Fondue series plays an exciting new tune in the Stellenbosch Winelands this year thanks to the announcement of a collaboration with the Cape Town Music Academy (CTMA) and Jazz in the Native Yards. All jazzed up, this renowned winter indulgence of cheesy delight, wine and live jazz performances will take place each Sunday from 24 June to 26 August.
