From giving birth to you, to always knowing how to get those mystery stains out of your shirt, to raising you into the person you are today, there are a lot of reasons to thank mom.

A family affair at Stellenbosch Kitchen 

 

 

Stellenbosch’s favourite corner kitchen is going à la carte for Mothers’ Day, serving all the wholesome, yummy food that locals love! Head Chef Rob Rainsford is receiving high-fives on his Lamb Shank, served braised with roasted baby potatoes, and you can’t go wrong the grass-fed beef sirloin, with mushroom puree, caramelised onion, potato gratin, and beef jus. The prawn risotto is also popular, with garden peas, lemon preserve, grilled courgette, sweetcorn, and prawn butter.

For kids the Monster Burger is a best seller, with spicy aioli, onion marmalade, Healey’s cheddar and stacks of just-right french fries. Sunday 13th May will be a Big Dessert day. Celebration, a lovely fire, and Warwick Wines are offering the ever-special First Ladies a glass of red or white on arrival. Dessert ideas include the mixed berry and white chocolate parfait, with wild berry compote and strawberry sorbet, or banana bread, Amarula crème pate, banana ice cream and salted caramel.

Average price for three courses is around R350 per person. Lunch continues all day long.

Helena’s Restaurant at Coopmanhuijs Boutique Hotel & Spa

 

Helena’s Restaurant is special. Tucked away inside Stellenbosch’s Coopmanhuijs Boutique Hotel & Spa, this Provence-inspired, popular 5-Star kitchen is all about heart-crafted, heritage food. For Mothers’ Day, Head Chef Kyle Conradie has designed a six course menu, presenting creatively-plated, flavour-filled dishes that celebrate life, harmony, and of course, family!

To start, the amuse-bouche is a seafood bisque with miniature corn bread;  colourful beetroot gnocchi follows, including roasted beets, fresh asparagus and marinated red onion, all held together on a warm, creamed goat’s cheese base. Citrus sorbet is the refresher in-between; and Karoo lamb follows, moistened by a cumin-infused lamb gravy, punctuated by a potato fondant. Generous servings of garden-goodness vegetables join this main, including brussels sprouts with pancetta, creamed beets with toasted macadamia nuts, and roasted sweet potato with baby rainbow carrots. An option to this is a tender freshwater sea bass, served with prawn aioli and mash potato. For vegetarians, a tomato filled with cannellini ragu is on offer.

And then Kyle’s finale: the sweetest, most darling canele and mini pavlova are companions to passion fruit curd, home-made vanilla ice cream and Canettevallei moskonfyt. Once you are pleasure-filled, we will lean you into lattes, or perhaps a creamy americano, and spoil mum further with wildflower cupcakes of red velvet richness; and orange and peach Turkish delight.

All this is presented centre stage in Helena’s elegant interior, always expressive of romance, and reflective of a bygone era. Four Gift Boxes will be presented in luxury draws.

Join Backsberg this Mother’s Day for a full weekend of celebrating women
